DATA & MAPS / URBAN OBSERVATORY

Beirut Urban
Observatory

Data. Maps. Insights for a better Beirut.

The Beirut Urban Observatory centralizes environmental,
social and urban data to support evidence-based decisions,
transparency and citizen engagement.

Data Status and Methodology

The dashboard currently contains illustrative values. These must not be used as current environmental readings or verified Beirut 2050 achievements.

The Strategic Framework Summary, Version 3.1 (2026), reports approximately 0.8 m² of green space per resident, 6–8% urban green cover, a municipal area of 19.8 km² and a coastline of approximately 20 km. These are framework reference estimates, not live measurements.

Other existing example figures are pending source verification. Future datasets should state the source, collection date, geographic boundary, methodology and responsible organization.

Digital Innovation and Decision Support

The framework proposes the Beirut Urban Observatory, Environmental Monitoring Network, Smart City Innovation Lab, Beirut Digital Twin, Coastal GIS Platform, Marine Environmental Monitoring Network, Coastal Decision Support System and Digital Coastal Observatory.

These are framework programmes. Availability of operational datasets, APIs and a 3D model will be announced as those services are established.

The Beirut 2050 Doughnut Challenge offers an educational exploration of scenarios. Changing its inputs does not constitute a validated prediction or measured city outcome.
